Without dropping a single map, Copenhagen Flames romped to victory, although ECSTATIC gave them a scare in the first map of the grand final.
The lastest iteration of the Malta Vibes Knockout Series concluded today, with pre-event favourite Copenhagen Flames fulfilling expectations by defeating ECSTATIC 2-0 in the grand final. It wasn't all plain sailing for the Flames who were made to work for it on their map pick of Nuke, being taken all the way to overtime by ECSTATIC, but in the end the difference in class told on Inferno where they closed out the series.
In order to make it to the final the Flames had to prove their pedigree by beating some of the stronger teams in the event, taking down AVE and Dignitas, as well as confidently besting MAD Lions in the quarter-finals, all without dropping a map.
As for ECSTATIC, they were made to work a little bit harder for their grand final berth, beating BLINK and going to all three maps with both Nemiga and MOUZ NXT, the latter series seeing them come back from a 1-16 drubbing on the first map.
It was a welcome victory for a Copenhagen Flames side that have struggled as of late, dropping series to the likes of 1WIN and Savage as an apparent hangover from the Major caused a dip in form. It is understandable that a team would struggle to return to the tier-two online circuit after the high of an event like the Major, and the potential sale of the roster to a different organisation may have also been causing a distraction behind the scenes.
As for ECSTATIC, this second place finish is yet another accolade to add to their growing resume in tier-two, with multiple victories and top placings under their belt. This result means they have placed top-two in their last three online events, taking some impressive scalps in the form of teams like MAD Lions and Entropiq along the way. This has seen them rise to their peak HLTV ranking of #20, and it would not be surprising to see them continue to rise in 2022.
